New Jersey Folk Festival: German-American Traditions - April 26, 2008:
Bayern Verein Newark was asked to be the feature act at the 34th Annual New Jersey Folk Festival, which this year celebrated the theme of "German-American Traditions". The New Jersey Folk Festival, which started in 1975, is held each year on the Douglass campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Over 20,000 people attend this wonderful event each year.
In addition to providing educational opportunities to festival goers, the NJFF also provides women students at Rutgers with a laboratory where they learn leadership and management skills. The festival is the end-product of a special three-credit class which offers undergraduate instruction in running a folk festival and the public presentation of culture. The NJFF is one of only a handful of folk festivals in the U.S. managed by undergraduate students. The students are responsible for all aspects of advertising, planning, and producing an event that celebrates the diverse multicultural and indigenous folk life of New Jersey and the surrounding region.
Both our adult and kinder groups performed in between sets of music provided by Bernie's Orchestra. It was a great opportunity for our group to share our enthusiasm and love of Bavarian culture with the many people who watched us perform. We look forward to performing at the New Jersey Folk Festival again in the future.

78th Stiftungsfest and Beerfest - March 29, 2008:
Close to 300 fellow Trachtler, family and friends joined us at the Kenilworth Veterans Center on March 29th for an evening of Gemütlichkeit. Bayern Verein Newark was celebrating it's 78th anniversary and the second annual "Beerfest". The musical entertainment for the evening was provided by "The Austrian Boys" and they had everyone dancing till the last song of the evening. Thanks to Frank and the band for making our evening an enjoyable and successful one. It was good to see them performing once again. As always, the food served was delicious and plentiful. Thanks to all of the "chefs" in the kitchen and everyone who helped make this event a success.
The evening was highlighted by the performances of our adult and Kinder dance groups. The adults were splendid in their rendition of the Muhlradl (Baker's Dance) and the Kindergruppe stole the show with their performance of the Holtzacker (Lumberjack Dance). We also had performances by all of the visiting Vereins, including Edelweiss Passaic from New Jersey and Gemutlichen Enzian and Edelweiss Westchester from New York. We always appreciate their support of our events and they came through for us yet again!
See you again next year for our 79th Stiftungsfest!
