About the Verein

There are currently 60 members of our verein. Approximately 20 of these are dancers.

The Schuhplattler Verein Alpenklang has performed at festivals around the North Eastern United States, including the Hunter Mountain German Alps Festival, The Gore Mountain Oktoberfest, The Great Escape Amusement Park Oktoberfest, The Gunstock Mountain Oktoberfest in New Hampshire and several resorts in the Catskills. We also perform locally at events at our Germania Hall. We march in the Steuben Day parade down 5th Avenue in New York City and in the North Troy Uncle Sam Day Parade. As part of the community we also perform at schools and nursing homes in our local area.

You can read more about the club's history on this page.

Kinder Gruppe

We have a kinder group for our young, because this is a family activity. We usually start our children dancing at 2-3 years old. At our Bauernball in 1995, our youngest children (3-4 year olds) made their debut on the bells with the song "Du, du liegst mir im Herzen". In 1996 they did a "Schnitzelbank" for the first time. Every year they do regular dances like "Kusstanz", "Kuckoo Tanz", and "Eins, Zwei, Drei". When they get to about 5 years old the boys start learning the proper 6-5 and 6-3 schuhplattler moves, the girls start learning the 2-2 & 4-4 spinning and they all start learning the waltz step followed gradually by the full turning waltz.
