Jack Scheberies 1927 - 2000

B.G.T.E.V. Almenrausch Schuhplattler San Francisco sadly mourns the loss of Jack Scheberies, who died ofcancer on December 10, 2000, in San Leandro, California. He was 72. Jack was horn in Oakland, California in 1927. After graduating from Fremont High School in 1946, he joiiied the Navy and became a champion in the Navy's heavyweight boxing division.

After two years of service, Jack enrolled at San Jose State University, where he won the 1952 National Amateur Athletic Union heavyweight title. He founded the Kappa Tau Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at San Jose State and earned his teaching credential there. Jack remained undefeated during a brief career in professional boxing, which earned him a spot in San Jose State's Sports Hall of Fame. Later he assumed his family's used car business, which he ran for many years, until his illness prevented him from work.

Jack joined Almenrausch Schuhplattler more than 20 years ago. bringing enthusiasm and good cheer to every rehearsal and event. He will he dearly missed by all the members of our club, as well as by the many other people he touched in his life. In addition to his support of Almenrausch, Jack will he remembered by many as the man who sold them their first car. For some, he will be remembered as a member of the Northern California Veterans Boxers Association. Others will remember him as an avid runner and member of the Golden Bay Runners, or as an active member of St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church.

We honor Jack's memory as an outstanding dancer and supporter of Almenrausch Schuhplattler. We extend our deepest sympathy to Jack's wife of 41 years, Juliane Scheheries, and his three sons - Curt, Mark and Fred Scheberies, as well as his brother Gerald Scheberies.
