Welcome Fall - As parents everywhere breath a sigh of relief that we are returning to school, our parents are still trying to figure out why dinner is served in bags and handed through the window of the car. As most kids in the Gauverband, September and October were very busy with Oktoberfest activities. We would like to take a few minutes to recap our Verein activities that kept our parents running August - November, but we would also like to recognize a few "special achievements" of our members who have been busy outside the club as well. In August we all had a great time at the annual Club Picnic in Morrison. We learned a few new games thanks to the efforts of a few "older members". They taught us a few games that they played in Germany when they were young. On August 18 we danced with the Colorado Folk Arts Council - Folksfest. It is an opportunity for us to not only show off our talents, but we also have the opportunity to see other cultural talents. The last weekend of August we were "slammed"! On Saturday we performed at an annual event in Lakewood (a suburb west of Denver) call Lakewood on Parade - it is an end of summer event and we performed at their "show wagon". Then we packed into the cars and drove even further west to the club property in Morrison, where we joined more of our members to help cook dinner for the membership. Later in the evening we danced and shared the floor with our Volkstanzgruppe at the last dance at the property for the year. On Sunday we hosted an Ice Cream Social at the clubhouse - after which many of us crashed. On September 7th we danced at Denver's largest Oktoberfest in Larimer Square. This would be the first of three Oktoberfest engagements for the month. All were a lot of fun. On the 22nd we hosted our first Spieltag. This was another opportunity for the "old folks" to teach us games from Germany - cards, pennies, board games and sausage were all part of the fair. Lastly, one again we packed our night with activities we cooked dinner at the clubhouse, hosted an Oktoberfest carnival and sold hearts. We all were very busy but had a great time. No rest for the parents yet - even though we are all back in school, October didn't seem to offer many reprieves. We have four more Oktoberfest engagements, Halloween, a Volkstanz seminar by Cindy Schaefer-Hartz this in addition to the preparations for our Grundungsfest in November. November gave them a small break before the holidays in that we only had our Vereinsabend and Grundungsfest on November 1st & 2nd and the opening of Fasching on November 11th. While we were running here and there, we had a few members running other directions as well. We had Soccer, Baseball, and Swimming. Brownies, Boy Scouts and summer vacations. WOW!
- Kristen Stamm age 5 - Participated in the Colorado Springs Invitational ice-skating competition where she won fist place in the Toddler Division! Anna Rase age 3 - has had several performances in tap and ballet dancing with her dance company - including her first recital. Tatianna Lane age 11 - had a 9-0 season with her St. Anne's 6th grade softball team. As you can see it has been a fun and hectic Summer/Fall. Look for another update after the holidays. May your holidays be blessed with Love and Happiness. We hope that Grampus does not pay you a visit! Mit Trachten
Grüss: T.E.V. Edelweiss Denver Kindergruppe.
