~ Gauverband Nordamerika History ~

The Gauverband Nordamerika Inc. is an organization founded for the purpose of promoting Bavarian and Tirolean folk dancing costumes, customs and culture; and establishing mutual fellowship.

The first meetings were attended by 18 Vereine. Today its membership has grown to over 75 Vereine.

The Member Vereine meet every two years in the even numbered years at a delegates meeting. At this meeting By-Laws changes are reviewed, workshops are held, and the decisions for hosting a Gaufest three years hence is made. Election of officers also takes place at this time.

The Officers meet every other year in March before the Gaufest where they review their recommendations for the next delegates' meeting. These meetings are usually held in the host city of the Gaufest of that year.

Since the Gauverband was formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in January, 1965, Gaufeste have been held in:

- St. Paul, Minnesota(1999)
- Nevele, New York (2001)
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2003)

The friendships that were gained at these Fests have been immeasurable!
